The Major Attributes of Leadership (#5 of 11):

5. Definiteness of Plans: The successfull leader must plan the work, and work the plan. A leader who moves by guess-work without practical, definite plans is comparable to a ship without a rudder. Sooner or later, it will land on the rocks. (from; Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill)

Nobody plans to fail, but many people fail to plan. A Gallop poll shows that only 30% of American households have a written budget and a long-term financial plan. Even of those 30%, many fail to stick to their plan. Success as a Prince demands that you map out your future and stay the course. Chapter 6 of “Prince or Pauper – Prepare for the road ahead” (soon to be released) is titled: “A journey of a thousand miles … begins with one step”. Therein we will discuss practical and specific ways to create and stick to a household budget, identify funds to save and invest and map out a future that enables you to take that first step on your journey with a high degree of confidence.

To Success!

The Major attributes of Leadership (#4 of 11):

4. Definiteness of Decision: People who waver in decisions show that they are not sure of themselves. They cannot lead others successfully.
(from: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill)

In terms of your ability to become a Prince, definiteness of decision, or being decisive and making a firm commitment to a course of action is vital for success. Among other endeavors, Warren Buffet’s parent company Birkshire Hathaway buys ailing businesses and turns them around to be profitable. When asked what he looks for in a new CEO to lead a new acquisition from the verge of bankruptcy back into the world of success, Warren said “I cannot tollerate a leader who operates on the “Ready, Aim, Aim, Aim, Aim, Aim, Fire” program.” Taking too much time to choose and commit to a direction is even worse than making the wrong decision. Worse yet is making no decision at all.

To be a Prince, you must determine what your “One Thing” is and faithfully pursue it without second-guessing yourself. Be confident and deliberate. Live each day with intent.

The Major attributes of Leadership (#3 of 11):

3. A keen sense of Justice. Without a sense of fairness and justice, no leader can command and retain the respect of his or her followers.
(from: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill):

A prince or princess needs to leverage their own efforts and aspirations by commanding other people’s resources, or in other words, getting other people to buy into and share your vision and goals. Leveraging resources allows you to accomplish great things in a short period of time. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Justice breeds trust. Trust breeds loyalty. Loyalty breeds motivation among your followers.

The major attrributes of Leadership (#2 of 11):
2. Self-control. People who cannot control themselves can never control others. Self-control sets a mighty exampler for one’s followers, which the more intelligent will emulate.  (from: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill)

Success in becomming a Prince (or Princess) demands that the circumstances of your day, you week or your life never result in bullying, coersion or angry explosions. Be persuasive by virtue of the merits and rightness of your possition. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Shelby Yastrow, the former chief in-house legal council for McDonalds Corporation. His advice: When in doubt, always do what is right. Not what is legal, but what is right, even if it hurts. Doing so will cultivate admiration, respect and support in your followers.

The major attributes of Leadership (#1 of 11):
1. Unwavering courage based upon knowledge of self and of one’s occupation. No follower wishes to be dominated by a leader who lacks self-confidence and courage. No intelligent follower will be dominated by such a leader for very long.
(from: “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill)

Success in becomming a “Prince” means and requires inspiring the confidence of others to help and support your own goals. Inspiring belief in you by others will enhance your chance for success exponentially … therefore, becomming a Prince also means becoming a leader.

We will begin our examination of this classic work by Napoleon Hill, almost 100 years old, to draw therefrom the timeless information that has served and guided would-be Princes throughout time.  Many principles of success are, indeed, timeless and have not changed over the centuries despite advancing technology and politics.

We will start by examining what Napoleon Hill has described as the “Major attributes of Leadership” … essential for any Prince or Princes to master.

Thomas Edison said: “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

I love that quote because Robert Herjavec of “Shark Tank” fame also recently said: “People do not realize is that it takes 15-years to become an overnight success.”

Often the key to becoming a “Prince” instead of a “Pauper” is the willingness to accept that there is no such thing as “get rich quick”. Willingness to work for your dreams make achieving them ever so sweeter.
